You can use part or all of this amount at any time within the eligible period. If your chosen piece is more than your entitlement, you simply pay the difference. This is non refundable in the case that you change you mind for any reason after the piece has been ordered and customised for you

How Does It Work?

To apply, you'll simply need a doctor's letter confirming:

  • Hair loss diagnosis
  • Whether your hair loss is permanent or temporary
  • Confirmation that your hair loss is non-hereditary (if required)
  • Already had a consultation with me?
    I can send in your doctor's note on your behalf.
  • If you haven't had a consultation,
    a $50 administration fee applies for processing and submitting your doctor's letter.

Once you have your letter, we'll guide you through the rest.

The subsidy can be used towards:

Suggested wording to ask your doctor for

YOU CAN SIMPLY SAY: "I'm applying for the New Zealand Wigs and Hairpieces Subsidy and need a medical certificate to support my application. Please include my NHI number, the medical reason for my hair loss, and whether the hair loss is considered temporary or permanent."

YOUR DOCTOR OR SPECIALIST MAY WRITE SOMETHING SIMILAR TO: "This patient is experiencing medically related hair loss due to [condition/treatment]. Their hair loss is [temporary/permanent]. This certificate is provided in support of their application for the New Zealand Wigs and Hairpieces Subsidy. NHI: [number]."

Your doctor or specialist will use the appropriate medical wording for your individual circumstances.
